How Reiki Can Help You To Grow Confidence

This month, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it truly means to be confident. We often mistake confidence for knowing it all or having a loud, unshakable exterior. But real confidence is much quieter than that. It’s the constant connection to your own soul supporting you on a daily basis.

I was recently moved by the story of 13-year-old Austin Applebee in Australia. After his mother and siblings were swept out to sea on paddleboards, Austin swam for four hours through rough, exhausting conditions to reach the shore. Frightened and unsure if his family was still alive, he kept going.

He said afterwards, “At one point I was thinking of Thomas the Tank Engine, trying to get the happiest things in my head, trying to make it through. Not the bad things that would distract me.” When he finally hit the sand, he didn't stop, he then sprinted 2km to a phone to call for help. He told emergency services: "I need helicopters, I need planes, I need boats, my family’s out at sea." Only after making that call did he finally collapse.

Austin’s courage is a powerful reminder that confidence isn’t about being superhuman. It’s what emerges when we stay deeply connected to our inner resources and our happiest things, even when we are exhausted and afraid.

How Reiki Rebuilds Your Inner Connection

In my own journey, with clients and in the training I share, I’ve seen how Reiki is one of the most gentle yet profound ways to rebuild that kind of confidence. Often, we feel unconfident because we’ve lost touch with our own bodies. We are like Austin in the rough water distracted by the "bad things or the what-ifs.

Reiki helps you drop back down into your body, it invites you to listen to what your body is telling you; to hear that quiet truth you already know in your very bones. When you practice Reiki, you aren't performing or fixing. You are simply being a channel for light.

This realisation that you have a home within yourself that you can return to even when you feel like collapsing is where true, unshakable confidence is born. You stop looking outside for validation because you’ve found your own inner steadying force.

Listening to the Body

Confidence expands when we are connected to our physical selves. You might notice that when you feel confident, your breath is deeper, your shoulders drop, and there is more room inside you to breathe.

When confidence feels absent, I invite you to be curious rather than self-critical. Instead of pushing through, try to hold space for the emotions that are surfacing. Notice the beliefs that are popping up and gently ask yourself:

  • What do I feel in my body right now?

  • When confidence feels far away, what am I believing about myself in this moment?

  • How does being connected to my body change how I show up for myself and others?

Begin the Journey: Usui Reiki Level 1

If after reading this, you feel a pull to know more in your heart, if you feel you would like to explore how to find that inner steadying force, our Level 1 Training is the perfect place to start. It’s a foundational step in coming home to your own essence. This level is all about you. It’s about self-healing, grounding, and learning to trust that inner whisper again.

Confidence grows when we give ourselves the breathing space to learn, heal, and simply be.

This March, I wish for you the courage of young Austin, to keep swimming toward the shore, guided by the happiest, truest parts of yourself.

With light, love, thanks and blessings,

Lexi
